In a shocking move, former South African Captain A.B De Villiers has retired from international cricket with immediate effect.
The star middle order batsmen took to the twitter to announce his retirement. De Villiers posted, “I have made a big decision today” . He has also posted a video for his followers.
ABD, as he is known world over, debuted for South Africa in December 2004. He is one of the greatest players to have represented the Proteas having played 114 Tests, 228 One Day Internationals and 78 T20 Internationals.
De Villers was recently part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team that had failed to qualify for the play offs of the Indian Premier League.
He captained South Africa to the semi-finals of the 2015 ICC World Cup. The decision comes as a massive blow to the Proteas who have been counting on De Villiers at next year’s World Cup.
