A critical shortage of food grains is looming over the South and West districts of Sikkim as the Food Corporation of India or FCI godown in Jorethang is reportedly running out of stock. High-level sources informed Northeast Live that the situation has become dire due to a delay in the supply of grains from the FCI’s primary godown in Siliguri, West Bengal. Sources have told Northeast Live that only 50 bags of rice are currently available at the FCI godown in Jorethang. Noteworthy is that the godown’s capacity is 12,000 bags.
