After carving out two new districts in the form of Soreng and Pakyong in December last year, the Sikkim government has now formally announced the names of the District Commissioners of the two new districts.
In an official notification, the state government has appointed Tashi Chophel as the DC of Pakyong district. Formerly working as Special Secretary in the Department of Personnel, Tashi Chophel will now take charge as the first DC of the newly created Pakyong district.
Meanwhile, Bhim Thatal, formerly the Director of Elementary Education and State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha Project has been appointed as the first DC of Soreng district.
It may be mentioned here that in December 2021 the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha goverment created the two new districts of Soreng and Pakyong by carving out West and East districts respectively, thus taking the total number of districts in the Himalayan state from four to six.
