SKM Govt To Introduce Temporary Work Permit Scheme at Gram Panchayat Level
First Published: 28th January, 2025 22:18 IST
The new system aims to safeguard local interests while ensuring a streamlined approach to managing external workforce deployment.
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government has announced the implementation of a temporary work permit system at the Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) level. This decision was made during a meeting of SKM legislators to address concerns about the unchecked entry of individuals from outside the state.
The new system aims to safeguard local interests while ensuring a streamlined approach to managing external workforce deployment. It will require all individuals from outside the state seeking employment in Sikkim to register and obtain a temporary work permit at the GPU level.
The move comes in response to growing concerns over the unauthorised entry of people into villages and towns, which has raised security and management issues.
By closely monitoring and regulating the influx of external manpower, the government seeks to protect local communities while maintaining order and efficiency.
