SKM Chief Prem Singh Tamang to take oath as Sikkim CM today for a second straight term

Sikkim Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his Council of Ministers.

The swearing-in ceremony of Prem Singh Tamang as the Chief Minister of Sikkim and his Council of Ministers will take place today at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony was to take place on Sunday, June 9, but was deferred by a day.

The ceremony will begin at 3 PM. Sikkim Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his Council of Ministers. SKM chief, Tamang, will take the oath for the second straight term.

Along with the Chief Minister, 12 Ministers and the newly elected SKM MLAs will be administered the oath of office and secrecy.

As per inputs, the ceremony will start with the chanting of prayers by Buddhist Monks, singing of hymns by Christian choir and Vedic chanting by Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Bodoland Territorial Region Chief Pramod Bodo are likely to attend the ceremony.

In preparation for this event, the state police have issued traffic advisory restricting the movement of traffic on certain roads leading to Paljor Stadium.

PS Tamang (Golay) first became the CM of Sikkim in 2019 by winning 17 of the 32 Sikkim Assembly seats. He unseated 5-time CM and his mentor Pawan Chamling to become the CM.

In the recently concluded Sikkim assembly polls, the ruling SKM secured a landslide victory, winning 31 of the 32 seats.

The party also won the lone Sikkim Lok Sabha seat in the elections held recently.
