Sinlung Hills Council polls on November 4; MNF, HPC forge alliance

Political parties in Mizoram are gearing up for the upcoming Sinlung Hills Council polls.

The elections will be a direct fight between the opposition Congress and the Mizo National Front-Hmar Peoples Convention alliance.

Meanwhile, newly floated ZPM and PRISM have decided  not to contest the council elections slated to be held on November 4.

It may be mentioned that, the MNF and the HPC (Democratic) have joined hands for the council polls. As part of the seat sharing agreement between both the parties; the MNF will field candidates in seven seats, while the HPC will contest five seats in the 12- member council.

The MNF will contest at Phuaibuang, Vanbawng, New Vervek, Tinghmun, Ratu, Zohmun and Saipum seats; whereas HPC candidates will be in fray from Khawlian, Saiphai, Suangpuilawn Sakawrdai South and Sakawrdai North seats.

The Congress will contest all the seats, except Saipum. Meanwhile, the BJP is likely to contest in two seats.

A total of 20,914 voters, including 10,405 women, are expected to exercise their franchise in 38 polling stations. Sinlung Hills Council covers as many as 31 villages in Mizoram.
