Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita has assured that Sikkim’s Pakyong Airport will soon be functional as all technical issues are actively being addressed. The Greenfield airport has remained non-operational for almost two years due to technical problems, but the Minister expressed optimism that these issues will be resolved soon. During his visit to Pakyong District on May 23, Margherita reviewed various development works in agriculture, education, health, and civil aviation sectors.
Speaking about the airport, Margherita said, “There are some technical issues at the airport, and officials from the Airport Authority have provided us with the current status. We must thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving Pakyong such an important airport. I believe that technical experts, the Minister for Civil Aviation, and the local government are actively discussing solutions. I am optimistic that the airport will become fully functional soon.”
Margherita also reviewed the progress of Pakyong District, which was created less than three years ago. He said, “Although Pakyong is a new district, it is progressing rapidly under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay. I have reviewed several departments, including agriculture, education, health, and civil aviation, and almost all are achieving their goals. I am confident that Pakyong will soon emerge as one of the best districts. We see the schemes and plans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being implemented effectively.”
On the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Nathula Pass, Margherita stated, “We are working hard not only for overall development but also to preserve our culture and heritage. The Mansarovar Yatra is an important part of our thousand-year-old civilisation, and we remain committed to its revival.”
