In the age of technology and artificial intelligence, Sikkim seems to have gone back in time. The students of Sikkim University had to face some tough times as they had to take their exams under candlelight today due to a power cut in the state.
The state has been facing severe snowfall and hailstorms causing disruptions in power supply across the state.
The opposition SDF’s Student Front was quick to attack the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government, and it alleged that the SKM government has regressed Sikkim back in time from an age of technology and artificial intelligence to stone era as students of Sikkim University had to appear for their exams under candlelight.
“The SDF Student Front strongly condemned the mismanagement of power supply under the SKM government. Frequent power cuts are the norm today, causing a huge burden for the everyday life of the Sikkimese people. The exam season for college students has just commenced and it is the duty of the government to ensure that regular power supply is given to educational institutions. Unfortunately today, the students had to face the issue of not having electricity for their exams,” the release said.
SDF Student Front also alleged that the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) neglected the education sector as the basic needs such as electricity during exam time have been ignored.
“SKM government is well known for the unusual and unnecessary amount of grand events week after week with every possible arrangement for their political gains. However, it is disgraceful that the SKM government is ignoring the basic needs of the students such as electricity during exams, that too in the biggest university in the state. This is an insult to the student fraternity across Sikkim.
Under the SKM government, the education sector has been sorely neglected and such an incident as we have seen in Sikkim University is only one among many,” the statement said.
Further, the SDF Student Front demands the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha government ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity for all the educational institutions as the students are undergoing their exam period.
