Sikkim: SDF leader K N Rai undergoes surgery but still on ventilator

Former Sikkim Assembly Speaker, K N Rai who is undergoing treatment in Delhi following the attack by miscreants in Melli, had a successful operation yesterday.

Giving the update on his father, K N Rai’s son, Vibek Rai informed that his father had a successful operation, but still remains on ventilator support with bleeding from the sinus area, causing breathing difficulties.

K N Rai was attacked on March 1 while he was on a door to door campaign at Mazi goan in Melli for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

The senior SDF leader suffered injuries in his face in the attack.

Sikkim Police have arrested 6 people so far in connection with the brutal assault of Rai.

The arrested accused have been identified as Joel Rai, Laxman Rai, Awan Tamang, Jiten Rai , David Rai , Saroj Thapa and Karan Tamang.

Meanwhile, a 15-member high-level team of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) led by party Chief Pawan Chamling have submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Acharya wherein SDF demanded that the mastermind behind the attack be identified and arrested immediately and urged him to impose President’s Rule in the state.

It has demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claiming the incompetency of the State police.

SDF has also demanded the immediate resignation of CM Prem Singh Tamang stating that the present SKM government has lost all moral basis on which they continue to stay in power.
