Sikkim on Friday recorded its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with the detection of 420 fresh cases in the state. The overall cases tally in the Himalayan state has gone up to 14,634.
There total number of active cases in the state stands at 3,794.
Among the new cases, 85 monks from the Rumtek Monastery has tested positive for Coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The development came a day after 122 monks tested positive for the coronavirus at Nyingma Institute in Lingtam, Martam, 4.5 km from Rumtek Monastery.
Till date, a total of 311 monks have tested positive for COVID-19 across five monasteries in the state. These include 122 from Rumtek Monastery, 122 from Nyingma Institute in Martam, 61 from Gonjong Monastery and five from Nor Monastery, both in Gangtok and two cases from Lingdum Monastery. All these monasteries are around Gangtok in East Sikkim.
Meanwhile, three more fatalities due to the infection were recorded in the state. The overall death toll in the state has reached 243.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
