Members of the Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum staged a protest in Gangtok yesterday against the detention of 3 of its members.
The SPYF claims that the members were arrested on no legal grounds. Not just this, the SPYF also termed the Sikkim police SKM Karyakartas.
Addressing a press conference around midnight at Gangtok, SPYF member Pravin Upreti stated that the three members of SPYF had taken part in the protest staged by workers of Alkem Pharmaceutical, a pharma company at Samardung, South Sikkim, that too “on invitation”.
Claiming the arrest to be an arbitrary act, Upreti stated that it is SPYF’s constitutional right to visit any place but the action of the Sikkim police only proves that they are only working as aides of the SKM party.
