Sikkim Mishap: Death toll rises to 3, govt announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to kin of decaesed

As many as 3 people were killed and 24 others sustained injuries including 5 critical injuries, after a tanker lost control and crashed into a Mela in Gangtok district last night.
The incident occurred nearly 8 pm in Ranipool area, which later caused havoc among the people.

As per inputs, around 27 were brought to the Central Referral Hospital of which 2 were brought in dead. 6 people were received in critical condition out of which 1 succumbed to his injuries last night.
Currently, 5 people are critical and being treated in Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Orthopedic Ward under Surgical and Orthopedic Specialists. 16 people who sustained injuries are being treated and kept under observation in the hospital.
Meanwhile 3 patients have been discharged after receiving first aid in the hospital.
Speaking to the Media, Gangtok District Magistrate Tushar Nikhare informed that a Tambola program was on in Ranipool when the truck crashed into the crowd.
The DM announced that the State government has released an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs for the family of the deceased and the government will bear the cost of treatment for the injured. He also added that an investigation is underway.
Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang has expressed his condolences and assured assistance to those affected.
The state governement will bear all treatment expenses at Manipal or referred cases covered by the state government. He also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
