Sikkim Hospital Stabbing: Anguished Medical fraternity takes out solidarity march at Gangtok

The medical fraternity at Gangtok’s Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) hospital staged a solidarity march condemning the attack on Dr. Sanjay Upreti and female attendant Kalawati Chettri on December 14.

The incident Sikkim’s biggest state-run hospital had sent shockwaves among the healthcare workers of Sikkim. The also raised serious questions about the security in the Hospitals of Sikkim.
Chief Minister Tamang himself visited the STNM hospital to review their health condition and assured to beef up security so that incidents such as these do not recur.
It may be mentioned here that Dr. Upreti was airlifted to Siliguri on an Indian Army chopper yesterday and is currently undergoing treatment there.
A man stabbed a doctor and a sanitation attendant at a hospital in Sikkim’s Gangtok on Monday after his girlfriend allegedly refused to speak with him,
The decision to airlift the doctor and the injured woman was taken after Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang held an emergency cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning.
