Sikkim Govt assures to repair houses damaged in landslides

Rural Development Minister Arun Upreti informed that the allotment order has been approved under the Rural Housing scheme, for which the budget will be allocated in July.
Sikkim Rural Development Minister Arun Upreti has assured that the state government will repair all houses damaged during the recent landslides in the state.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Minister Arun Upreti said that at least 7 houses in Yangang have already been sanctioned, and assessment for North Sikkim is under process.
He also informed that the allotment order has been approved under the Rural Housing scheme, for which the budget will be allocated in July.
He also informed that the roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna which were damaged in the recent landslide will also be reconstructed.
On Thursday, at least 2000 tourists, who were stranded in North Sikkim after landslides triggered by heavy rains cut off the region since June 12, were rescued and brought to safety.
Due to landslides in North Sikkim and South Sikkim, a total of 9 people have died, several houses were damaged, power and communication lines snapped, and roads and bridges were washed away by the landslides and the swelling River Teesta.
