Former SDF leader and founder member of the regional party of Sikkim, the Citizen Action Party (CAP) has been appointed as the new president of the party today.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the party at the party head office, Adampool near Gangtok.

Rai replaced incumbent party president Bharat Basnet and became the 3rd President of CAP.

Rai was the Vice President of SDF and his wife, Tulsi Devi Rai was an MLA from 2009-2014 and from 2014-19 she was also the minister for social welfare and PHE.

In the recently held Sikkim Assembly elections, Rai contested from Melli Constituency, but lost to SKM’s Nar Bahadur Pradhan.
