Sikkim footballer Robin Gurung has declared his retirement from professional football after nine years in the I-league and six years in the Indian Super League, for a total of fifteen years in professional football.
Gurung stated in a statement that his injury had taken a toll on him and that he was unable to give his all to the game, which was one of the main reasons he decided to retire from the professional game.

Despite his retirement from professional football, the athlete stated that he will continue to play in the amateur game and seek to improve football players at the grassroots level.
Gurung, a technically gifted player who has played for major clubs such as East Bengal, Shillong Lajong, Jamshedpur FC, and Northeast United FC, is well-known for his ability to play at any position in defence. He also represented India in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
