Sikkim Flash Flood: One of the 23 missing Indian Army men rescued, search for others continue

The search and rescue operation by Indian Army for the 23 missing soldiers continue. One soldier has been rescued so far. His condition is stable.
Troops of Trishakti Corps Indian Army launched a massive search and rescue operation to trace the 23 missing soldiers. The search operations are being undertaken under conditions of incessant rains, fast-flowing water in the Teesta River with the roads and bridges washed away at many places.
The family members of the missing persons have been contacted and informed about the situation. All other Indian Army personnel posted in Sikkim and North Bengal are safe and they are unable to contact their family members due to disruptions of mobile communication, an Army release said.
The 23 Army personnel went missing early today morning after a cloud burst over Lhonak lake in Lachen Valley of Sikkim hit the army establishment along the Teesta River that is now in spate causing massive destruction in large parts of Sikkim and Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Darjeeling in North Bengal. The worst affected districts of Sikkim are Mangan, Namchi, Pakyong and Gangtok.
