Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang Golay recently convened a high-level meeting to strengthen the state’s preparedness for potential emergencies, following recent tensions between India and Pakistan.

The meeting brought together Political Secretary Jacob Khaling, Cabinet Secretary V.B. Pathak, Chief Secretary R. Telang, DGP Akshay Sachdeva, and heads of various departments, including officials from Health, Power, Food & Civil Supplies, Roads & Bridges, Land & Revenue, Sikkim Police, along with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from all districts.

Chief Minister issued clear directives to each department to enhance the state’s emergency readiness. The Power Department has been instructed to conduct emergency drills and raise public awareness about blackout preparedness, while the Roads & Bridges Department must ensure all critical roads and bridges remain fully operational and structurally sound. Health Services are required to keep hospitals fully equipped, staffed, and prepared for emergencies, while the Food & Civil Supplies Department has been directed to maintain ample stocks of essential items and fuel to ensure uninterrupted distribution.

The Police and Security Forces have been tasked with strengthening border vigilance, conducting regular drills with Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and Special Armed Police personnel, and maintaining public order. Disaster Management teams have been instructed to activate siren systems and deploy trained personnel promptly in emergencies.

CM Golay reassured the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of Sikkim, given its strategic location near international borders. He urged citizens to stay informed through official channels, cooperate with authorities, and avoid sharing unverified information to prevent unnecessary panic.

“National security is our priority, and we remain committed to the welfare of every citizen,” CM said, stressing the importance of inter-departmental coordination and robust emergency response mechanisms.
