In a historic day for Sikkim, the state’s Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling has just equalized his tenure with that of the former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu who had remained in power for 23 years, 4 months and 17 days.
However, this record will be broken by Chamling on the 29th of April, thus becoming the longest serving CM in the whole nation. It may be mentioned that on 4th March, 1993, Pawan Chamling had founded a regional party called the Sikkim Democratic Front which is the ruling party in the state at present.
Immediately after one year, on 12 December, 1994 he formed his first government and is ruling the state for the fifth consecutive term at present. He has also been the party president since its inception in 1993.
Pawan Chamling is considered to be the architect of modern Sikkim. A celebratory function will be organized at the Chief Minister’s Residence on Sunday to commemorate Pawan Chamling’s record breaking political career.
And Meanwhile Spokesperson of the party K. T. Gyaltsen on behalf of the party has expressed his joy. He stated that under the leadership of CM Pawan Chamling the state has achieved much and will continue to do so in the days to come.
