Sikkim BJP releases final list of 9 candidates, fields Pooja Sharma from Namcheybung

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its third and final list of nine candidates for the upcoming Assembly Polls in Sikkim.
The party has fielded Pooja Sharma who resigned from the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on Monday and joined BJP yesterday from Namcheybung seat.
Pooja Sharma is likely to face a tough fight as she is pitted against five-time former Chief Minister, 8-time MLA and SDF President Pawan Chamling, Raju Basnet of SKM and Severine Rai of Citizen Action Party (CAP).
Pooja was the Chairperson of Sikkim Film Board and General Secretary of SKM’s women wing.
BJP has named Bharat Kumar Sharma from Gyalshing-Barnyak, Janak Kumar Gurung from Namthang Rateypani, and Bhupendra Giri from Temi-Namphing, Gopi Das Pokhrel from Rangang-Yangang, Chetan Sapkota from Khamdong-Singtam, Prem Chettri Khatiwara from Rhenock, Duknath Nepal from Chujachen and Penzong Lepcha from Dzongu assembly constituency.
BJP is contesting all the 32 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Earlier, state BJP president D R Thapa said that the party will not enter into a post-poll alliance and will be strongly fighting against corruption once elected to power.
Thapa assured that the BJP is prepared to contest the elections and introduce positive change for the state.
Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
Today is the last date of filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations is to be carried out by ECI on March 28 and March 30 is the date for withdrawal of candidature.
