A recent birding event in Sikkim saw 57 birders participate, generating over 1,000 bird lists and discovering 250 species.
A key highlight was a five-member group covering the Dzongu Hills in North Sikkim, where more than 150 bird species were recorded.

Notably, the remote Sakyong Pentong village was included in the bird count map for the first time, marking a significant milestone.
The team, consisting of local birders Sonam Wangchuk Lepcha, Lhendup Lepcha, Rozan Dhungel, Tilak Dhungel, and state Great Backyard Bird Count coordinator Dibyendu Ash, played a vital role in this achievement.

Ash emphasized the importance of frequent bird censuses and such events in creating detailed avian diversity data for remote areas like Dzongu. He expressed that the involvement of locals made the event both thrilling and fulfilling.
