First list of candidates would be declared by today evening and remaining by tomorrow, said Thapa.

Putting all speculations to rest, the BJP said that it will contest the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections alone in Sikkim.

The elections to the 32-member Sikkim assembly will be held on April 19 and BJP will field candidates for all the 32 seats and the lone Lok Sabha seat, state BJP president DR Thapa informed on Saturday.

Thapa told Northeast Live that the Central BJP leadership and state BJP leaders met on Friday in New Delhi, where it decided that the BJP will contest solo in Sikkim elections.
First list of candidates would be declared by today evening and remaining by tomorrow, said Thapa.

There was a lot of uncertainty and speculations ran rife that the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) might have some kind of an alliance with the BJP as the two parties are said to be allies now.

Assembly elections in Sikkim would be held on April 19 and the counting of votes will be held on June 2.

In the 32-member Assembly, a party would require 17 seats to form the government.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) won 17 seats, while the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won 15.
