Sikkim assembly poll 2024: BJP’s door open for post-poll alliances, says state party president DR Thapa

Exuding confidence about BJP’s victory in the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Sikkim, state party president DR Thapa today stressed on the party’s confidence in its electoral performance and signals a receptive approach to potential coalition partners.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, DR Thapa said, “BJP is the largest party in India. We will not actively seek post-poll alliances with any party. However, our doors are open to any party that wishes to join hands with us.”

Thapa who is contesting from the Upper Burtuk assembly constituency has also exuded confidence about his victory.

He is likely to face a tough fight against SKM candidate Kala Rai, Dil Bahadur Thapa of Sikkim Democratic Party (SDF), Aita Tamang of Congress and Bhim Kumar Tamang of Citizen Action Party (CAP).

Expressing concern over reports of individuals openly distributing cash and using threats to influence voters, DR Thapa emphasized the importance of ensuring free and fair elections.

He urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to investigate and fight instances of open cash distribution and voter intimidation in the lead-up to the elections.

Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly and the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
