Sikkim: 6 arrested in connection to attack on SDF leader KN Rai

The arrested accused have been identified as Laxman Rai, Awan Tamang, Jiten Rai , David Rai , Saroj Thapa and Karan Tamang.
Sikkim Police have arrested six people in connection with the brutal assault of senior SDF leader and former Assembly Speaker K N Rai last evening.
According to police, three of the accused were arrested from Kubindey Forest, while the fourth was apprehended near Melli Gumpa. Other two accused were arrested from Melli.
The arrested accused have been identified as Laxman Rai, Awan Tamang, Jiten Rai , David Rai , Saroj Thapa and Karan Tamang.
As per police sources, one more is still absconding and the search is on.
The arrested have been booked under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 324 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
On Friday, KN Rai was brutally attacked at Melli in Namchi. Apart from Rai, party spokesperson Shiva Kumar Timshina was also brutally attacked allegedly by ruling SKM supporters. Rai was referred to a hospital in Siliguri for treatment.
The SDF has condemned the incident adding that there is no rule of law in the state. The SDF has also demanded immediate arrest of those behind the attack.
Earlier, Chief Minister PS Tamang, condemning the attack on KN Rai, assured that strong action will be taken against the perpetrators.
