In a hair raising incident reported from Assam’s Sorbhog under Barpeta district, over 16 street dogs were killed by a group of people allegedly by poisoning.
According to sources, the dogs frequently roam the streets and were killed after being served poison-laced waste meat near the meat market at Highway Chowk in Sorbhog.
Many people condemned the inhumane act, and animal lovers demanded harsh punishment for the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Pritisha Goswami, a nature lover, has filed a FIR at the Sorbhog police station in this regard.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Goswami said, ” After consuming the waste meat, the dogs died. While some of the dogs vomited blood, others foamed at the mouth. We suspect that someone intentionally killed the dogs by putting poison in the waste meat. The dogs ate the meat on Sunday, and after a few hours, they were not feeling well and were wandering around, and all of them died on Tuesday. Every day, I come here to feed the dogs, which number between 16 and 20. I also filed a FIR with the local police station, and an investigation has been launched.”
