Shillong’s Police Bazar Set For Major Facelift, Govt To Notify Vending Zones In 3 Locations

The bustling streets of Khyndailad a major commercial hub in Shillong known for its Second-Hand clothes market, is set for a significant transformation. Well the government of Meghalaya is preparing to notify vending zones in three locations within Khyndailad also known as Police Bazar, as part of the first phase of the relocation of hawkers and vendors in the state capital. The government’s plan is to turn the area into a Hawker-Free Zone, restricting it exclusively for pedestrian use. Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the relocation process is expected to be completed by mid-November, allowing for the full pedestrianization of Khyndailad, which involves relocating vendors, issuing permits, and ensuring the area is dedicated solely to pedestrians.
