The cleverly worded alert combines wit with a serious message about sticking to traffic rules and celebrating responsibly.

In a creative twist to ensure public safety this New Year’s Eve, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has issued a “special menu” in the form of an advisory to caution motorists and riders against violations on the city’s streets. The cleverly worded alert combines wit with a serious message about sticking to traffic rules and celebrating responsibly.

The advisory is divided into three categories:

Starter Violations
The advisory begins with “starters” that include common infractions such as riding without a helmet, driving without a seatbelt, using mobile phones while driving or riding, triple riding, wrong parking, and operating vehicles without proper number plates.

Main Course Offences
For those who persist in risky behaviours, the “main course” lists more severe violations: drunk driving, reckless driving, overspeeding, and underage driving or riding. These offences are often the leading causes of road accidents during celebrations.

Dessert Misconducts
To wrap up, the “dessert” section highlights issues like modified exhaust pipes, unnecessary honking, and stunting on public roads, all of which disrupt public order and create unnecessary risks.

The advisory concludes with a stern yet humorous note: “If you choose any of the above, the Shillong Police (STP) will be at your service.” Additionally, the STP urges citizens to “enjoy responsibly and begin 2025 with a smile.”

This innovative campaign by the Shillong Traffic Police highlights the importance of responsible behaviour during festive celebrations. By combining humour with a firm warning, the initiative aims to create awareness and ensure a safer environment for everyone on New Year’s Eve.
