Shillong IED blast case: 2 more arrested from Ri Bhoi, 6kg EID recovered

As per police sources, the 2 arrested people revealed that plans were in place to plant IEDs in Shillong and Nongpoh.

Even as Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured tough action against those involved in the IED blast in Shillong on Saturday, police have arrested two more people in connection with the blast, taking the total number of arrests made so far to 4.

The two were arrested from Ri Bhoi and it has come as a big breakthrough as a 6 Kg IED was recovered from the two arrested.

As per police sources, upon interrogation the duo revealed that plans were in place to plant the IEDs in Shillong and Nongpoh.

Police sources added that the modus operandi of the arrested people point to an active militant group in the state. A vehicle was also seized from the arrested duo.

Earlier on Sunday, the East Khasi Hills police arrested one person from Shillong and another from Dawki in connection with the crude IED blast at Mawlonghat in Shillong.

One of the arrested is a member of pressure group Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF).

Meanwhile, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma today assured tough action against the perpetrators of the IED blast at Them Iew Mawlong on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, CM Conrad asserted that police enquiry into the matter is underway and all those responsible will be caught.

The Meghalaya CM further informed that a lot of people have already been arrested in connection with the case.
