In a major blow to India’s ongoing World Cup campaign, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the tournament for three weeks due to fractured thumb.
Dhawan had sustained a fracture on his thumb during a match winning hundred during India’s last bout with Australia. Dhawan will not be able to play India’s upcoming matches against New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies and England, all the matches are scheduled to be played in June.
Dhawan is likely to be replaced by Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant in the Indian team. He has been a key player for India in ICC tournaments where he has six hundreds.
In this scenario, KL Rahul is most likely to open with Rohit Sharma, with Dinesh Karthik or Vijay Shankar likely to slot in the middle order.
