High decibel, high-pitch. The BJP has raised the temperature in poll-bound Tripura with its high voltage, high octane electioneering over the past few days. Non-stop back-to-back rallies, door-to-door campaigns over the past few days has suddenly catapulted the so far muted, low-key campaigning to a new high across the state. Over the past few days, BJP’s saffron brigade seems to have hijacked the political scene of the state with the likes of Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP national president JP Nadda going full blast, full throttle attending over 30 rallies so far.
On February 8, Tripura saw as many as 8 BJP rallies in one single day. Defence Minister Singh attended 2 rallies, UP CM Adityanath and Assam CM Sarma attended three rallies each.
The Defence Minister attended a total of 4 rallies in two days while the UP CM attended 5 rallies in two days.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah who was among the first to sound the poll bugle in Tirpura in first week of January by flagging off rath yatra in north and south Tripura, was back again on February 6 to attend rallies at Santirbazar in south Tripura and Khowai in west Tripura.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma who is also the NEDA convenor and a key poll strategist for BJP in the northeast, addressed as many as 14 rallies in 5 days. He also did door-to-door campaign.
This is not all. Union Minister Smriti Irani, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik (also a candidate this election), West Bengal Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari, Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, MP and BJP Janajati Morcha chief Samir Oraon, actor-turned politician Mithun Chakraborty, actress-turned-politician and Lok Sabha MP Locket Chatterjee also attended rallies in Tripura as they tried to woo voters for BJP and its ally IPFT. BJP’s list of 40 star campaigners include Yuva Morcha President Tejashwi Surya, Hema Malini and Manoj Tiwari.
BJP plans to finish its high voltage electioneering in true BJP style with Modi magic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be addressing rallies in Tripura on February 11 and 13.
BJP is contesting all the 60 seats with its ally IPFT. Voting takes place exactly a week from now on February 16. Results will be announced on March 2.
