Several members of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a function held in the party head office in Guwahati on Wednesday.
The former BPF members joined the saffron party in presence of Assam BJP President Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who welcomed them at the BJP headquarters.
Former BPF leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Biswajit Daimary, who had joined the BJP ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council polls, was also present on the occasion.
Reacting to the ‘Mahagatbandhan’ (Grand Alliance) formed under the aegis of Congress and AIUDF Ranjeet Dass said that the grand alliance would not affect BJP’s prospects in the upcoming state polls.
“Whoever it may be, BJP won’t be harmed. We have seen such Mahagatbandhan in the past and people have still supported the BJP. The people of Upper Assam have termed it an unholy alliance and BJP will win in 8 constituencies — Golaghat, Sarupathar, Mariani, Titabor, Nazira, Sivasagar, Doom Dooma, Naoboicha with full public support,” said Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
