On April 24, Sardana informed via Twitter he had contracted the coronavirus. Reports said that he passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack.
Sardana was among the most popular faces of TV news journalism in India. He hosted the show ‘Dangal’ that aired on Aaj Tak news channel featuring news debates on current affairs.
The journalist was with Zee news for several years, before moving to Aaj Tak in 2017. He was awarded the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Puraskar by the Indian government in 2018.
He also used to host the popular show – ‘Taal Thok Ke’, a debate programme that discussed contemporary issues in India.
Condolences began pouring in from all quarters moment after the news of passing away of the senior journalist. His untimely demise came as a major shock to the media fraternity at large.
Rajdeep Sardesai took to Twitter and wrote, “More terrible news friends. Well known TV news anchor Rohit Sardana has passed away. Had a heart attack this morning. Deep condolences to his family. RIP.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoling Sardana’s death said Rohit was full of energy, passionate about India’s progress and a kind hearted soul. He will be missed by many people.
“Rohit Sardana left us too soon. Full of energy, passionate about India’s progress and a kind hearted soul, Rohit will be missed by many people. His untimely demise has left a huge void in the media world. Condolences to his family, friends and admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal CM Pema Khandu, MP Subhash Chandra and other political leaders condoled the death of the senior journalist.
Taking to the Twitter, Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “Pained to learn about Shri Rohit Sardana ji’s untimely demise. In him, the nation has lost a brave journalist who always stood up for unbiased and fair reporting. May God give his family the strength to bear this tragic loss. My deepest condolences to his family and followers.”
“I’m deeply shocked & saddened to hear heartbreaking news of senior journalist Rohit Sardana’s demise. He was a fearless and straightforward journalist. May his departed soul rest in peace #RohitSardana,” Sports Minister Rijiju tweeted.
Expressed his grief Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “This is a big jolt for journalism. I deeply mourn the untimely demise of fearless and bright @aajtak journalist #RohitSardana. So painful for the family & friends. My prayers and condolences.”
