Former Lok Sabha MP and senior Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) leader PD Rai has weighed in on the MCX scam issue in the Himalayan state, wherein the state has allegedly witnessed commodities trade of over 6 billion dollars.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, PD Rai opined that the matter should be probed by a central agency like the CBI or the Enforcement Directorate and not by the State Vigilance Police, as was earlier stated by Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang.
According to the senior SDF leader, the state vigilance department does not possess the necessary tools to conduct an investigation of this proportion, and hence a central agency like the CBI or Enforcement Directorate should be roped in to probe the matter.
It may be mentioned that Sikkim CM PS Tamang had on Thursday informed the State Vigilance Police that they are investigating the suspicious increase in the numbers and market share of Sikkim-based traders on the Multi-Commodity Exchange, or MCX.
It has been revealed that the market share of Sikkim-based traders on the Multi Commodity Exchange rose up to 5.5% when it had been nil few years ago. Out of the total volume churned of over 110 billion dollars witnessed by the MCX, Sikkim’s share was 6 billion dollars.
