Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today indicated that scientific mining will begin soon in the state. Sangma informed that 17 applicants have submitted applications for granting licenses for legitimate mining. The Meghalaya Chief Minister added that all the applicants have received approval from the Centre. The entire process is now on the exploration stage for generating Geological Report before obtaining a Mining lease.
This indeed is a positive development when the MDA government is facing the heat from different quarters as far as tackling illegal mining is concerned. But one has to wait and watch as to how things proceed in the future course.
The Meghalaya cabinet on March 15 had passed the Meghalaya Mineral Prevention of Illegal Mining Transportation of Storage Rules, 2022.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that the rules will apply to both Major and minor minerals.
