Starting October 16, all government and private schools, colleges, and universities are set to reopen in Sikkim, with a few exceptions. The Advance Technical Training Center (ATTC) in Bardang will remain closed until further notice, but online classes will be available, a circular issued today said.
In the Teesta Valley region, which includes the districts of Gangtok, Pakyong, and Namchi, several schools are set to reopen from October 16. This includes Rangpo Mining Senior Secondary School, Chanatar Secondary School, Majitar Secondary School, and Bardang Secondary School, but these schools will only be open for students in class 5 and above.
Singtam Senior Secondary School in the Gangtok district has been designated as a Relief Center. It will remain closed, but classes for students in grades 9 to 12 will continue until an alternative relief camp is identified and finalized.
“Likewise schools under Mangan District i.e. Tasa Tengay Sr. Sec School Chungthang, Lachen Sec. School, Bop PS, Munsithang PS, Chatten Primary School, Theng PS, Pegong PS, Lachen Monastic School and Chungthang Monastic School will remain closed until normalcy is restored; online classes are to be undertaken in these schools whenever possible. iv. Students hitherto attached to private schools that have been impacted due to natural calamities and interested to seek admission to Government Schools should be granted admission”, the circular said.
Several schools in the Mangan District, including Tasa Tengay Senior Secondary School, Chungthang, Lachen Secondary School, Bop Primary School, Munsithang Primary School, Chatten Primary School, Theng Primary School, Pegong Primary School, Lachen Monastic School, and Chungthang Monastic School will remain closed until normalcy is restored. Online classes will be provided when possible.
For students who were enrolled in private schools affected by natural calamities and are interested in seeking admission to government schools, the government will grant them admission.
The annual examination dates for government schools, originally scheduled from November 20, 2023, to November 28, 2023, have been rescheduled to take place from November 24, 2023, to December 2, 2023.
To ensure timely coverage of the syllabus, schools in the state will remain open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of November 2023.
