A special one-day long conference held under the aegis of the Union Ayush Ministry saw Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State for Ayush Munjapara Mahendrabhai hold talks with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and other health ministers from various Northeastern states in Guwahati on Saturday.
Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom and Sikkim health minister Mani Kumar Sharma also took part in the conference along with Ayush ministry officials and different state health ministry officials.
Addressing the gathering, Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that Assam will soon get another Ayurvedic College at Goalpara. He also said that Rs 70 crore has already been sanctioned for the project.
Apart from this, the Ministry of Ayush has decided to upgrade the Government Ayurvedic College in Guwahati and develop it as a Centre of Excellence.
Sonowal further stated that special steps would be taken to promote and bring about plantations dedicated to Ayurveda in the North-eastern region. To boost the popularity of traditional medicines provided by Ayush, the minister announced the setting up of 100 Ayush dispensaries in the northeastern region.
He also announced that 1,000 health and wellness centres will be established in the region as part of the National Ayush Mission (NAM) Scheme. The aim of the proposed Health & Wellness Centres is to provide a holistic wellness model based on principles of Ayush systems of medicine.
