Salman Khan house firing: Accused Anuj Thapan dies by suicide

The accused arrested in the Bollywood star Salman Khan’s house firing incident, Anuj Thapan died at a hospital on Wednesday after allegedly attempting suicide while in Mumbai Police custody.

Thapan was arrested along with Sonu Subhash Chander from Punjab on April 25 for allegedly supplying guns to shooters Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, who are already arrested for firing multiple rounds of bullets outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Bandra on April 14.

As per sources, Anuj Thapan, 23, committed suicide by hanging himself in the lock-up’s lavatory using a bedsheet. He was rushed to the state-run GT Hospital for emergency treatment, where he was declared dead while undergoing treatment.

On the morning of April 14, two people arrived on a motorcycle and fired four rounds outside the actor’s Galaxy Apartments. One of the bullets hit the balcony of the actor’s home. Following the incident, the attackers promptly fled the site. Surveillance footage showed that both men were wearing caps and carrying backpacks.

The Mumbai Crime Branch characterised the attack as a “carefully planned assault,” supported by CCTV footage showing one of the suspects firing toward Salman Khan’s residence.

Salman’s security level was elevated to Y-Plus after threats from gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. The actor was also authorised to carry a personal firearm and has also acquired a new armoured vehicle for added protection.
