Saif Ali Khan’s Attacker Entered India Through Meghalaya, Crossed Dawki River: Police

According to the police, Fakir, who changed his name to Vijay Das, crossed the Dawki River in Meghalaya to enter India illegally.
The accused who allegedly stabbed Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence had entered India from Bangladesh around seven months ago, a Times of India (TOI) report said quoting police sources.
According to the police, Fakir, who changed his name to Vijay Das, crossed the Dawki River in Meghalaya to enter India illegally.
Fakir initially stayed in West Bengal, where he used a local resident’s Aadhaar card to obtain a SIM card before relocating to Mumbai in search of work. Investigators revealed that the SIM card used by Fakir was registered under the name Khukumoni Jahangir Sekha, a West Bengal resident. Fakir also made unsuccessful attempts to secure an Aadhaar card for himself, a Hindustan Times report said.
Saif Ali Khan was stabbed by an intruder during an alleged burglary attempt at his high-rise residence in Bandra on January 16. The actor was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital and was discharged today after surgeries to remove the knife that was lodged near his spine.
Mumbai Police arrested Fakir from Thane three days after the attack.
The Mumbai Police have gathered substantial evidence linking Fakir to the crime. Multiple fingerprints were collected from the actor’s Satguru Sharan apartment building, including those on the bathroom window through which Fakir gained entry, the duct shaft, and a ladder he used, as per Time of India reports. A forensic team, alongside local police and the crime branch, has been conducting thorough investigations at the crime scene.
After stabbing Saif Ali Khan, Fakir reportedly hid in the building’s garden for nearly two hours, fearing immediate arrest. Preliminary investigations suggest he used this time to avoid being detected while planning his escape.
As per Hindustan Time reports, the Mumbai Police recreated the crime scene with the accused to piece together the sequence of events.
The accused has been remanded to five days police custody by the metropolitan magistrate’s court in Bandra. Investigators are delving deeper into Fakir’s background, including his activities since entering India and his potential motives for targeting the Bollywood actor’s residence, a TOI report said.
