Saffron surge in Arunachal Pradesh; BJP’s Kiren Rijiju, Tapir Gao lead

BJP candidate Tapir Gao is leading in Arunachal East parliamentary constituency by 10453 votes over his nearest rival Bosiram Siram of the Congress
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently taking the lead in the two Lok Sabha constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh, as per the initial trends of the Election Commission.
Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju is leading by 31449 votes in Arunachal West against his rival Nabam Tuki of the Congress.
Kiren Rijiju is a 3-time MP from Arunachal West seat. He won the seat in 2004-09, 2014-19 and 2019-23.
In 2014, Rijiju was inducted into the Narendra Modi Cabinet as Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs.
In 2019, he was made the Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs. In 2021, he was made the Cabinet Minister for Law and Justice and later he was moved to Union Minister of Earth Sciences.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Tapir Gao is leading in Arunachal East parliamentary constituency by 10453 votes over his nearest rival Bosiram Siram of the Congress, as per initial trends available from counting of postal ballots.
Tapir Gao was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004. He lost the seat in 2009 and 2014 to former Congress leader and now BJP leader Ninong Ering. Gao was again elected in 2019.
Polling in the state for two constituencies, namely, Arunachal West and Arunachal East took place on April 19. The total voter turnout from the total 8,82,816 electors in the State was 77.68%.
On Sunday, BJP bagged 46 seats in the 60-seat state assembly to secure its third run in power. Whilst Congress recorded its most dismal performance ever, bagging only one seat of the 19 it contested. This was a massive drop from the 42 it won in 2014.
