In an effort to boost the sale of tea in Tripura while spreading awareness on the health benefits of tea, hundreds of tea lovers today took part in ‘Run For Tea’ in Agartala.

Notably, the three km run was jointly organised by Tea Board of India and Tripura Tea Development Corporation.

Tripura’s Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Special Secretary Abhishek Chandra, Executive Director of Regional Office of Tea Board of India Runita Phukan and Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Santosh Saha, flagged of the run that started from the tea corner of Birchan state library and culminated at the same point.

The dignitaries also took part in the run along with over 1000 runners and covered the streets of Agartala.

It may be mentioned that Tripura is sixth among the Indian tea growing states.

Speaking to NEL, the chairman of TTDC, Santosh Saha said that inorder to increase the sale of Tripura’s tea there they have placed a demand for setting up of a tea auction centre in the state to avoid the cost and hassle of transportation tea to the existing tea auction center at Guwahati and Kolkata.

He also added that the issue of exporting Tripura’s tea to Banglasesh shall be raised during the forthcoming schedule visit of Banglasesh Prime Minister to India next week.
