The Twipraland State Party is opposing the construction of a dam on the Howrah river in the state.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Party President CR Debbarma said that many tribals have already been cheated by government earlier and have been displaced because of such developmental projects and they fear that the same might happen this time also.

Speaking on this matter, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that the dam will be constructed and that the government will not respond to such opposition.

Earlier, after formation of the BJP-IPFT government in the state, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited the sources of Howrah river at remote Baramudara Hills of Khowai district on April 2nd this year.

Biplab Deb declared that a two and half metre long dam will be constructed to settle the water logging issue forever. He further stated that two megawatt electricity will also be generated.
