Rima Das’ movie ‘Village Rockstars’ has been selected as India’s official entry into the foreign film category of the prestigious Oscar Awards.
With this, ‘Village Rockstars’ becomes the first movie from Assam and the Northeast to be sent as an official Oscar entry from India
The Film Federation of India (FFI) on Saturday announced ‘Village Rockstars’, which also bagged the Best Feature Film award at the 65th National Film Awards as the country’s official entry to the 91st Academy awards.
The movie was selected above several other blockbuster movies like Raazi, Padmaavat, Hichki, Padman etc. to make it as the country’s official selection to the Oscars.
In a moment of double joy for Assam, earlier Adil Hussain’s Norwegian film ‘What Will People Say’ has also been nominated as Norway’s official entry to the Oscars.
And now Rima Das’ film has made it to the Oscars as India’s contender.
Meanwhile, an ecstatic Rima Das, tweeted, “With tears of joy and a feeling of pride, I humbly accept this news. #VillageRockstars is India’s official entry for the #Oscars ! Let that sink in ”
