Rhino attacked by a man in Kaziranga National Park dies

On November 24, a man named Naren Saikia attacked a rhino with a sharp weapon when it had strayed outside the National Park

The one-horned rhino that sustained injuries during an attack by a man with a sharp weapon earlier last week, was found dead in Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

The carcass of the rhino was recovered on Thursday evening from Teteliguri area of Kahora forest region inside the Park.

Speaking to media, Arun Vignesh, an officer from the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division said that on November 24, a man named Naren Saikia allegedly attacked a rhino with a sharp weapon like a spear when it had strayed outside the National Park.

On receiving information, the Park authorities launched a search operation to locate the injured rhino using drone etc, but could not locate the injured rhino. On Thursday, a team of forest officials found the rhino dead in Teteliguri area.

Arun Vignesh said that the cause of the death of the rhino is yet to be ascertained. Accused Naren Saikia has been arrested for attacking the rhino.
