Over the past few days, four leaders from BJP, SDF and SKM have resigned

Over the past few days there has been a series of resignations in the world of Sikkim politics. Resignations have been submitted by leaders of BJP, SDF and SKM.

Today two resignations were submitted — ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s (SKM) leader Dr Shiva Kumar Sharma and Namchi District SDF president C L Gurung quit their respective parties.

Namchi District SDF president C L Gurung also resigned from SDF after being with the party for 30 years. In his resignation letter, Gurung said that he is resigning from the Namchi SDF District President position and from the primary membership of the party due to personal reasons. Gurung thanked the party for all the opportunities.

Last week, Sikkim’s main opposition party Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF)’s spokesperson Avinash Yaka resigned from the party. In his resignation letter, Yakha blamed the party’s policies for his decision. Yakha said that he had supported SDF while it was in power and even as an Opposition party. But he lost faith in the party now. Yakha has been under the radar for a while, following the SDF-SKM clash in Soreng on April 30, where he had allegedly whipped out a gun and shot in the air to escape. Earlier in June he surrendered to Gyalshing Police. He is out on bail now.

Also late last week, Sikkim BJP president D B Chauhan had resigned. He submitted his resignation to BJP National President JP Nadda. He cited internal fight and dissension and blamed the party’s central leadership for his resignations.
