The Election Commission of India has ordered re-polling in as many as 168 polling booths in Tripura West parliamentary constituency, which was held on April 11.
Re-polling in 168 constituencies is the highest for any Lok Sabha constituency in the country in the ongoing elections. The Commission declared the voting held at these polling stations void based on reports submitted by the chief electoral officer, special observer and the returning officer.
It may be mentioned that the opposition Congress and CPI-M in the state had recently threatened to move Supreme Court if re-polling is not conducted in at least 50 percent of the polling booths in Tripura West.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
