A pan Northeast war on drugs is on the cards. All Chief Ministers of Northeast will soon join hands to tackle the menace. This was informed by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in an exclusive telephonic conversation with Northeast Live Editor-in-Chief Wasbir Hussain.
The Manipur CM made the revelation following a record seizure of methamphetamine in the state’s Senapati district. CM N Biren added that the seizure was a result of continued operations undertaken by the state in its war against drug menace.
In the major drugs haul, police in Manipur’s Senapati district seized methamphetamine and WY tablets worth over Rs 30 crore in the local market and a whopping Rs 100 crore in international market.
The contraband items were seized during a routine vehicle checking along the National Highway-2 at Hengbung in Senapati.
A team from Senapati police station led by Additional SP ML Kaisungbou made the massive seizure when a truck was intercepted along the highway.
The crystal methamphetamine was stuffed into 15 packets while there were 50 packets of WY tablets. This is by far one of the biggest seizures in Manipur and a record recovery as far as Senapati is concerned.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Biren Singh warned that no one involved in drugs trade will be spared. He also confirmed that the seizure was worth around Rs 100 in the international market.
Significantly, the chief minister also said that Manipur has aired its concerns over the unguarded border with Myanmar which is an international drug route and that fencing work is underway in a stretch of 40 kilometers.
Meanwhile, Senapati SP Pradip Singh gave the details of the operations. The driver of the truck identified as Mohammad Azad Khan from Thoubal has been arrested and booked under NDPS act.
