Railway job exam stir in Bihar: Protesting students burn tyres, block roads

Thousands of students today took to the street in Bihar to protest over alleged irregularities in the Railway Recruitment Board’s examination process.

Several student organisations have called for a statewide bandh today to protest alleged inconsistencies in the RRB’s Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB-NTPC) exam 2021.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at several railway stations and government buildings to prevent any untoward incidents.

It may be mentioned that earlier this week, student unrest in Bihar over the Railways recruitment exam turned violent- Squatting on railway tracks, setting a train on fire, and pelting another with stones, candidates went on a rampage.

The candidates protesting the Railways’ decision to hold the exam in two stages, claiming that holding the second stage for final selection is tantamount to “cheating” those who appeared and passed the first stage of the RRB-NTPC computer-based test, which was released on January 15.

The Ministry of Railways has formed a five-member committee to investigate the students’ grievances.
