The Miss Grand International 2024 pageant concluded on a high note for India, as Rachel Gupta claimed the coveted crown, becoming the 12th Miss Grand International and the first winner from India.

However, the event’s spotlight quickly shifted to an unexpected controversy involving the Myanmar team, capturing widespread attention both on social media and news outlets.

In a surprising turn of events, Myanmar’s contestant, Thae Su Nyein, initially celebrated her position as the second runner-up, only to face public embarrassment moments later. As she descended from the stage with her crown and sash, Myanmar’s national director, Htoo Ant Lwin, approached her and, to the shock of onlookers, removed her crown and threw away her sash. A visibly upset Thae Su Nyein began to cry, and Htoo Ant Lwin then escorted her from the venue, an emotional incident that quickly went viral.

Videos circulating online showcase the chaotic moment, including footage of Lwin shouting at a bystander who was recording the scene. According to Hindustan Times report, the on-stage incident created a tense atmosphere, with Myanmar’s national director and Thae Su Nyein at the center of a heated situation that overshadowed the celebratory mood of the event.
