The Assam Rifles (IGAR North) alongwith Arunachal Pradesh police have apprehended a hardcore insurgent of NSCN-IM, Anok Wangsu from Longding town.
Based on specific intelligence input, the joint team of Assam Rifles and Longding Police discreetly approached the suspected house and apprehended the hardcore insurgent.
Anok Wangsu, who is the Area Commander of NSCN-IM Wancho region was found in possession of a large number of incriminating documents and extortion money.
According to a press statement by the Assam Rifles, Wangsu is one of the prime suspects in 2 NIA cases of 2015 and 2019, which involved the killing of three army personnel and the then Arunachal MLA Tirong Aboh, in two separate ambushes.
The press statement further added that the apprehension of the cadre is a major blow to the illegal activities of NSCN-IM in the region as he was involved in recruitment and various other anti-national activities.
The apprehended insurgent was handed over to Longding Police Station for further investigation.
It may be mentioned that Tirong Aboh along with 11 others including his son were shot dead by NSCN-IM rebels on 21 May in 2019 in Pansum-thong village of Tirap district.
