Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the State government has given full authority to the district administration heads to shut down all primary schools wherein on an average positive COVID-19 cases exceeds over 100.
However, in the districts where the number of victims is less, schools will not be closed, Sarma said.
Addressing a press conference at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on the recent Covid situation, Sarma said that the UK variant of the COVID-19 infection has increased in Assam from April 3 to April 9.
In Assam, 4,069 people are currently receiving treatment for the infection. Over 500 people tested positive on Friday, who were mostly rail and air passengers.
It may be mentioned that around 8 districts of Assam – Kamrup (M), Kamrup Rural, Nagaon, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, and Cachar has already registered over 100 cases of Covid infection.
The number of positive cases in Guwahati stands at 245. The overall positivity rate in the state today is 1.6 percent.
